  • Decreasing lower lid shadow
  • Restoring volume and fullness to the cheeks and lips
  • Softening creases
  • Smoothing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Diminishing the appearance of scars

You’ll never have to worry about people suspecting you have had work done. Dr. Daugherty uses her unmatched skills and artistic abilities to restore and enhance your natural appearance and make sure you look like you — only better.

What Do Botox and Dermal Fillers Accomplish?

These two products have similar anti-aging effects, but they work differently and are suitable for separate aesthetic concerns.

Safe for cosmetic purposes, Botox, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are neuromodulators that present few side effects. Neuromodulators temporarily block nerve signals to eliminate muscle movements that can cause skin to wrinkle. By preventing repetitive muscular motions, these products reduce and smooth the appearance of fine lines.

With natural-looking results, an injectable wrinkle relaxer does not affect movements in non-treated areas and is effective for patients who have moderate to severe wrinkles. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin can provide a smoother appearance to the:

  • Eye and eyebrow area, including glabellar lines
  • Neck
  • Frown lines
  • Dynamic wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  •

Dermal fillers are an effective method to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and they also help promote the body’s natural collagen production, improving skin’s overall appearance. Most fillers consist of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid, making them safe for almost all patients.

Dermal fillers are available in different formulas that can help smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, adding volume and hydration to restore contours with long-lasting results. The refreshing effects of fillers are immediate, and in some cases, may last for up to one to two years.

Fillers can help refresh your youthful appearance by addressing wrinkles or volume loss in:

  • Lips and perioral area
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Hands

Your results will depend on which injectable treatment you opt for. Most patients who receive Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin will notice improvement to the appearance of their wrinkles within seven days. The treatment will continue to relax your underlying facial muscles over the next month, smoothing and refreshing your skin’s appearance.

Typically, patients can enjoy Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin results for three to six months; however, this timespan will vary based on placement and individual response.

Many patients notice immediate results following a filler treatment. However, some fillers work more gradually, providing more natural-looking results two to three weeks following treatment.

FAQ

Filler & Botox Baton Rouge, LA

Botox and filler cost in Louisiana depends on your goals and the number of units necessary to achieve your desired results. At your consultation, Dr. Daugherty will give you an estimate of the cost of your neuromodulator or dermal filler procedure.

Typically, there is no downtime following a neuromodulator or filler procedure. You may experience slight swelling or bruising following treatment; however, these effects should resolve within a few days.

Botox treatments can be done quickly on the lunch hour with return to work that day.  The first consultation may take a little longer for your doctor  to get to know you and your goals.  Once a plan is established, treatments can take as little as 15 minutes.

You should avoid strenuous activities for approximately 24 hours following your injectable treatment.

Botox (onabotulinum toxin A) and Dysport (abobotulinum toxin A)  and Xeomin (incobotulinum toxin A) are all  different formulations of botulinum toxin A.  The difference in the formulations are due to the size of the accessory protein chains attached to the active toxin protein.  It remains to be seen whether this is clinically relevant.  Some providers and patients have favorite formulations, but all work to weaken muscular activity to prevent wrinkles or smooth wrinkles that have already formed.

Dermal fillers are used to add subtle volume to areas of the body.  Most commonly dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid or HA for short, which is a building block of collagen.  They are used to replace volume loss mostly in the face, but also can be used in other locations.

Hyaluronic acid which is a building block of collagen.

This question deserves an inpatient consultation as there are multiple options with different levels pliability, viscosity etc which can benefit one anatomic area or another.  Dr. Daugherty  will have a discussion with you about your goals prior to recommending treatment with a product.

On-label use of Botox includes the treatment of the upper face or glabellar, forehead and crows feet or canthal wrinkles.  There are several off-label uses for botox in the cosmetic world including treatment of the masseter muscles for facial slimming and to help with teeth grinding, treatment of the perioral area to soften fine lines and out turn the lips a botox “lip flip”, treatment of lower face musculature that pulls down the corner of the mouth or causes neck bands, and several others.

In the face, cheeks, chin, jawline, under eye area, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lips and acne scars are commonly treated areas.  Filler can also be used in the hands, vulva and diluted in the neck and decolletage to help with aging changes.

Patients may have bruising or swelling that is usually resolved by 7-10 days.  It is best to plan treatment at least 2 weeks prior to any big event.

The effects of Botox treatments begin to wear off around the three month post treatment mark.  Patients usually have additional Botox treatment sessions every 3-4 months for optimal results.

Yes – one syringe is ⅕ of a teaspoon, so a relatively small amount of product.  The goal is to look refreshed – not “done”.

You should avoid medications or supplements that increase your risk of bleeding at least one week before.  These include aspirin, advil, aleve, fish oil, ginkgo biloba, ginseng and garlic.  You can also start taking arnica montana which is a supplement that helps to  decrease bruising and swelling a couple of days prior to treatment and until the bruise resolves.  Ice immediately to the area helps as well.  If all else fails, cover the area with a yellow/orange tinted concealer to counteract the blue in the bruise until it resolves.  A lighter concealer will tend to look grayish.

Of course.  The overactive facial muscles responsible for the wrinkles that are targeted in treatment are not essential for the movement of your face. You will still be able to smile, talk and interact normally.  You should look refreshed – an elevated brow, no worry lines etc and not weird or done.  Some patients prefer some movement and more of a natural look in the upper face muscles – forehead, glabella and crows feet – while others prefer a completely smooth look.  A discussion with your doctor about your goals prior to treatment is so important to make sure that the results achieved are what you desire.

The treatment area is first topically numbed.  The needle used is relatively small, so mostly can feel like dull pin pricks.  Areas with lots of nerves like lips can be more sensitive than other areas.

Risks range from slight temporary redness, bruising, or an allergic reaction all the way to something called a vascular occlusion where the product is injected into a blood vessel.  It’s very important to have someone with an intricate knowledge of the anatomy of the face perform this procedure on you for this reason.  In the event of an occlusion, there is a reversal agent for HA filler, but you need someone who has a good understanding of what is going on and how to treat the situation.
