What Is a VI Peel?
The VI Peel is a medium-depth, medical-grade chemical peel that’s been specially formulated to be suitable for all skin types. Chemical peels utilize safe, effective chemical solutions to exfoliate the skin’s surface and encourage cell renewal and collagen production to enhance its appearance. As highly customizable treatment options, VI Peels are an ideal solution to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin for a more youthful, refreshed look.
With 6 uniquely formulated treatments, VI Peels are a quick and painless procedure designed to improve your skin’s tone, texture, and clarity by stimulating collagen production and addressing:
- Age spots and freckles
- Sun damage
- Hyperpigmentation, including melasma
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne and acne scars
- Rough texture
With a blend of rejuvenating acids, a VI Peel exfoliates at the cellular level to minimize fine lines, shrink enlarged pores, and restore collagen, leaving your skin healthier and more resilient. Patients typically notice improvements to their skin’s tone and texture within a week of their peel.
A VI Peel effectively addresses concerns on the face, neck, chest, arms, back, and hands for full rejuvenation. As a versatile treatment, VI Peels encourage collagen production for firmer, more youthful skin, and they’re safe for all skin tones, including darker tones.
Am I an Ideal Candidate for a VI Peel?
Good candidates for a VI Peel include men and women who want to enhance the appearance of their skin, including hyperpigmentation, melasma, rosacea, wrinkles, and acne. VI Peels can also help improve skin firmness, tone, and texture. Dr. Daugherty recommends candidates for Baton Rouge VI Peels should:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Live a healthy lifestyle
- Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have realistic expectations and a positive outlook
- Understand the risks of the procedure
- Be prepared to follow instructions
Patients who aren’t candidates for a VI Peel include those who are pregnant or nursing, immunocompromised, allergic to its ingredients, or have active skin infections. During your consultation with Dr. Daugherty, discuss your health history, including your medical conditions or medications you take to avoid complications.

What Can I Expect During a Baton Rouge VI Peel?
While Dr. Daugherty customizes all VI peel procedures to achieve optimal results for each patient, here are some general steps to expect.
To achieve optimal results from your VI Peel, it’s important to prepare yourself in the weeks ahead of your procedure. Dr. Daugherty recommends maintaining a balanced diet, high in protein and vitamin C-rich produce.
If you smoke or use any nicotine products, you should quit for at least 2 weeks before and after your peel. Smoking impacts the body’s ability to heal, which affects your body’s ability to regenerate new cells. In the weeks before your VI Peel, Dr. Daugherty will recommend you avoid:
- Sun exposure: Avoid the sun and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks before and after treatment. Wear sunblock with an SPF of 30 or higher for 7 to 10 days before and after treatment.
- Discuss medications: Inform Dr. Daugherty of all the medications you take, including Accutane antibiotics, or blood thinning medications and supplements.
- Avoid other treatments: Schedule other facial treatments or hair removal at least 1 week before your peel.
- Avoid certain skin products: For 3 to 4 days before treatment, stop using retinol, alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, and benzoyl peroxide.
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine: As alcohol and caffeine can dehydrate your skin, avoid excess consumption for a couple of weeks.
VI Peel procedures are performed in 2 phases. First, the peel targets the skin’s superficial layer, and the second phase penetrates the dermis. The peel is applied to your skin and left on for several minutes before it’s neutralized. Patients often report a mild tingling or warm sensation, but the VI Peel process is well-tolerated.
Once the solution dries upon your skin, you may leave the office and resume your normal daily activities. To maximize the effectiveness of the VI Peel, wait at least 4 hours before washing the peel off with a mild cleanser and post-peel towelettes and applying post-treatment cream.
A VI Peel treatment typically takes around 30 to 45 minutes.
After your VI Peel, Dr. Daugherty will provide detailed aftercare instructions and a take-home post-treatment kit, including post-peel towelettes to speed up the cell turnover process and post-treatment cream.
Following your VI Peel, your skin will begin peeling 2 to 3 days after treatment. It’s important to keep the treated area moisturized during this time. You may experience sensitive skin while healing.
VI Peels do not require downtime, so you can resume most activities, such as working, immediately. However, avoid strenuous exercise or other activities that cause sweating at least 72 hours after treatment. For at least a week after treatment, wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher or protective clothing if you cannot avoid sun exposure while your skin is peeling.

How Soon Will I See My VI Peel Results?
Typically, most patients begin experiencing peeling by the third day following their VI Peel. Peeling will continue until day 6 or 7. While peeling may be noticeable, it is easily concealable with moisturizer. Patients may experience skin sensitivity for a few days.
After a single VI Peel, you may see rejuvenated skin without downtime. However, depending on your aesthetic goals, you may need a series of peels. It is safe to have a VI Peel every 4 to 6 weeks. During your consultation, Dr. Daugherty will recommend the number of treatments you may need.
It’s important to follow Dr. Daugherty’s aftercare instructions, including appropriate sun protection, proper skincare, and follow-up treatments to ensure your VI Peel results.
